The Weicon Green Tube
The manufacturer of adhesives and sealants Weicon has been actively addressing the topic of sustainability for many years. One key aspect of this commitment is the responsible use of our planet’s finite resources.
An alternative to conventional cartridges
As an alternative to conventional plastic cartridges, Weicon has therefore developed a more sustainable packaging for its elastic adhesives and sealants: the Weicon Green Tube. The Green Tube is suitable for flexible adhesives and sealants such as MS polymers, silicones or polyurethanes.
The tip and lid of the new Green Tube are made from 100 % recycled plastic, while the cartridge body is made entirely from cardboard. The adhesives and sealants are contained within a tube-shaped bag, which is protected from damage and sunlight by the cardboard casing. The use of the tube-shaped bag extends the shelf life of the products by more than six months compared to packaging in PE cartridges.
Significantly less plastic
By using this combination of materials, 80 % less plastic is required – and a large proportion of the new packaging can be recycled. The cardboard cartridge generates 53 % fewer CO₂ emissions during the manufacturing process than a conventional PE cartridge.
With the Green Tube, Weicon has developed an alternative to conventional sealant and adhesive cartridges, as these cannot be recycled after use because of leftover product inside. These residues are the reason why plastic cartridges are usually incinerated, which leads to the release of large quantities of climate-damaging CO₂.
The new Weicon Green Tube can be used with any standard cartridge gun. So far, six different adhesives and sealants from Weicon have been launched in the Green Tube, with more to follow.
